ORC Fall ‘22: The Details
Welcome back! Or I guess I should welcome myself back. With all of the Halloween festivities and fall weddings, I missed posting last week. But that’s not to say the last two weeks haven’t been full of progress - because they have. You know what they say, the devil is in the details and after getting the major renovation tasks done, like the flooring and wallpaper installation, we were finally able to start moving forward on the details.

It’s hard to believe this is even the same space. I can’t even begin to explain how happy Matt and I are to have a functioning bathroom on the lower level again. We spend most of our time either in our office (hint: you may see this project in the very near future) or in our living room, so not having a usable bathroom downstairs made for a slightly annoying few weeks.
Welcome to Murphy Lane
If you’re new here – welcome! I’m Makenzie and this is Murphy Lane, a place where my fiancé, Matt, and I share everything from DIY renovations to simple decor hacks to help you love the home you’re in. We are currently DIYing our way through a full gut renovation in our Powder Bath for the one room challenge. We can’t wait to show you what we have in store for this space!
Week 5
During week 5 of the One Room Challenge, we hired out a plumber to install our new toilet, vanity and faucet. While these are certainly tasks we could have DIY’d, we knew it would be better to call in the professionals to ensure that everything was installed correctly with no leaks or risks of future leaks. I’m so glad we made this decision as it gave us some time to rest after the marathon that was the first four weeks of this challenge.

Week 6
This past weekend we had a Halloween party for our family, so our sole focus was finally getting the door and trim work up so that the space would at least be functional going forward. And let me tell you, I never want to hang another door again. Our opening was entirely un-square. We had every issue in the book - bowed studs, un-level header… the list goes on. Normally I try to film every task we do and share the process on my socials, but this one was best left to do off camera. Now that we’ve learned how to work around these issues, I’m confident when the time comes to take on this task again, we’ll be able to do it a lot smoother and faster.
Coming Up
The One Room Challenge is coming to a close in just two weeks, which means we are officially in crunch time. Now that we have all of the fixtures in place, my focus will be all of the finishing details. Caulking, painting and styling! I am so excited to get all of the decor in here, I know it’s what’s really going take this space to the next level.
